WEST PARIS – After reviewing four bids for winter sand, selectmen last week awarded the contract to Calvin Mason of West Paris at $4.98 per cubic yard.
Other bids were $5.45 from Poland Construction, also of West Paris, and $5.23 from R.A. Tibbetts of Wilton and Keith Hadley of Woodstock.
Town Manager John White said Mason was awarded the contract last year and Road Foreman Bill Keach was pleased with the job he did.
Selectman Wade Rainey added, “I never heard any complaints about Calvin’s job last year, and the price he is quoting is the same as it was then. So I feel we will do OK if we go with him again.”
The contract includes hauling and mixing 2,000 cubic yards with salt for storage behind the town garage on Kingsbury Street.
In other business, White agreed to talk with Keach regarding ordering road salt for the coming winter season. They will decide between Morton Salt for $59.54 per ton, Interstate at $67.79 or Granite State Mineral for $53.77.
Rainey said last year’s order was around 600 tons.
