FARMINGTON – Franklin County commissioners begin review of department requests for the 2008 budget this afternoon.
The review will be held over two days, and some county Budget Committee members will also be in attendance to get familiar with the budget before that committee reviews it later.
If the budget requests pass untouched by both panels, then the proposed budget would be $4.8 million. After revenues are applied it calls for $3.97 million to be raised by taxpayers in the county.
The amount budgeted for this calendar year was $4.67 million with $3.8 million of it picked up by county taxpayers.
The requested budget is up 3.9 percent over the current year after revenues are factored in.
Commissioners will meet at 9 a.m. at their office at the courthouse.
At noon Tuesday, departmental budget requests will begin with probate, 12:20 p.m.; adult basic education, 12:40 p.m.; Greater Franklin Development Corp., 1 p.m.; Cooperative Extension; 1:20 p.m.; Soil and Water Conservation Commission.
A break follows until 1:50 p.m. for Franklin County firefighters; 2:10 p.m. Tri-County agency; 2:30 p.m. Sexual Abuse Victims Emergency Services; 2:50 p.m. Franklin County Children’s Task Force.
There is a break following that review until 3:15 p.m. Androscoggin Home Care & Hospice; and 3:35 p.m. Western Maine Community Action Program.
On Wednesday, Oct. 17, budget review continues at 9 a.m. at the commissioners’ office with SeniorsPlus up first. At 9:30 a.m., the budget for the Franklin County Sheriff’s Department and dispatch will be heard, followed by a break.
Review resumes at 11 a.m. with the treasurer’s budget; 11:10 a.m. Registry of Deeds; 11:20 a.m. miscellaneous and county clerk; lunch break at 10:45 a.m.; with review continuing at 1 p.m. with the jail.
After that, a break will be held and budget talks begin again at 215 a.m. with the Emergency Management Agency; at 2:30 p.m., district attorney; and 2:40 p.m., miscellaneous/county clerk.
