RUMFORD – Selectmen will appoint representatives to the school merger regional planning committee and begin a dialogue on a regional plan for Rumford and Mexico on Thursday night.
The regular meeting begins at 7 p.m. in the Municipal Auditorium.
The town is looking for people who would serve on the regional planning committee, which will develop a plan for SAD 43 to merge with SADs 21, 44 and Union 37. Town Manager Jim Doar said those interested may fill out an application at the town office.
At Thursday’s meeting, a municipal official to the panel will also be chosen.
The board will also begin, yet again, a discussion on developing a possible strategy for regionalizing with neighboring Mexico. Talks have started many times during the past few years. Doar believes it is time to begin such discussions once more.
Other agenda items include honoring two former selectmen, Jolene Lovejoy and Jim Rinaldo, proclaiming this as Magic Week as requested by magician and performer Scot Grassette, and setting a workshop for selectmen to meet with the Parks Commission to discuss departmental needs.
River Valley Growth Council acting director Diane Ray will make a presentation on the need for about $16,000 to hire a consultant who will search for “green” companies to come to the area.
Moontide Water Festival Chairman Eddie Shurtleff will request a license for a Texas hold ’em fundraiser, and the board will be updated on tax collections and the town’s financial report.
Doar will explain the work stoppage on the Municipal Building renovation. He said an 8,000-gallon fuel tank between the building and the adjacent fire station must be removed before work can continue.
He said plans are to replace the tank with two tanks, one each to serve the Municipal Building and the fire station.
Also, the board will act on a letter requested by Med-Care Ambulance Service that allows construction of an emergency building and contracts will be granted for replacement of part of the Rumford Public Library roof and storm sewer pipes.
