AUGUSTA – The Maine Army National Guard will hold a ceremony at 11 a.m. Saturday at the new Cony High School on Pierce Drive to honor soldiers recently returned from deployment.
The ceremony will recognize Security Force II, which includes 90 soldiers from the Maine Army National Guard who served 12 months in Iraq.
The soldiers conducted force protection operations, convoy security and route clearance in Iraq. Security Force II, stationed in Navistar, Iraq, sustained one fatality.
In June 2007, Sgt. Richard Parker of Phillips was killed in action by an improvised explosive device. In May, Spc. David Saucier was seriously wounded while conducting security operations. He remains at Walter Reed Army Medical Center in Washington, D.C.
