NEW GLOUCESTER – The seventh annual Community Fair begins this weekend at the New Gloucester Fairgrounds on Bald Hill Road.
It runs from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. Saturday and 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday.
Committee Chairman Scott Doyle, a firefighter and town volunteer, said the fair will feature 30 public service organizations Saturday as part of public safety day.
Tom Driscoll, a member of the Maine Air National Guard, is expected to make an appearance on a Black Hawk helicopter at roughly 10 a.m. Saturday. Driscoll, a former New Gloucester resident, served a year in Iraq and will return there for another year’s tour in January.
The Lions Club will host a car show from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday.
A blood drive sponsored by the American Red Cross is scheduled from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday. A LifeFlight of Maine helicopter is planned at noon.
Crafters, food, live music and kids games will be offered.
The Dirigo Vintage Baseball Club, dressed in period clothes of the 1860s, will play a game using the rules and traditions of that era. No gloves are worn; the hurler throws the ball underhand and a ball caught after one bounce or on the fly is considered an out.
The Fire and Rescue members will offer a chicken barbecue Saturday.
Cow patty bingo will be featured at 2 p.m.
RE/MAX hot air balloon rides will held from 4 to 6 p.m. and fireworks are scheduled at 6:30 p.m..
Sunday’s events include a Big Boys Toys Day with construction equipment and remote controlled aircraft, among other big toys.
The Gray-New Gloucester High School Band will be on stage at 11 a.m., and Jim Gallant will perform at 2 p.m..
Area business establishments donated roughly $17,000 to the Community Fair.
Committee members include Suzan Hawkins, Brian Whitney, Dave Lunt, Nate McNally, Frank Chambers, Kathleen Potter, Kathleen Campbell and George Carmen.
