LEWISTON – Rita F. Spencer, 92, a resident of d’Youville Pavilion and formerly of 71 Morris Ave., Lewiston, died Sunday, Oct. 14, at St. Mary’s Regional Medical Center.

She was born in Canada on June 7, 1915, the daughter of Lucien and Dora Fluette Dallaire. She moved to the area at a young age and was employed for many years in local shoe shops, including Etonic, and also worked as a hostess at Steckino’s Restaurant in Lewiston.

On Sept. 2, 1939, she married Roland J. Spencer, who passed away on Sept. 21, 1946, due to combat-related injuries from World War II.

A member of Holy Family Parish, she was an avid bowler in her younger days, and also volunteered at St. Mary’s Regional Medical Center and was active in the Gold Star Mothers. She enjoyed driving her car and took pleasure in chauffeuring friends on shopping trips and errands. She also enjoyed traveling to visit family and friends out of state.

Survivors include a daughter-in-law, Irene Spencer of Florida; a brother, Joseph and his wife, Yvette Dallaire, of Lewiston; a sister-in-law, Annette Dallaire of Lewiston; a grandson, Erick J. Spencer of Florida; three great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

Besides her parents and husband, she was predeceased by her son, SFC William E. Spencer, who was killed in action during his second tour of duty with the Green Berets in Vietnam; two sisters, Cecile Morin and Marguerite Polak; and a brother, Maurice Dallaire.
