AUBURN – The Corporate and Community Services Department at Central Maine Community College will offer “Preventing Workplace Violence” (CED 013-01)) from 9 a.m. to noon Tuesday, Oct. 23. The cost of the workshop is $85 and includes materials.
Workplace violence can be any act of physical violence, threat of physical violence, harassment, intimidation or other threatening, disruptive behavior that occurs at the work site.
Any number of events in the work environment can trigger or cause workplace violence. It may even be the result of non-work-related situations such as domestic violence or “road rage.”
Workplace violence can be inflicted by an employee, a manager, supervisor, co-worker, customer, family member or even a stranger. Whatever the cause or whoever the perpetrator, workplace violence is a growing concern.
The workshop will help participants learn to identify problems and make their workplace safe. OSHA guidelines for workplace violence will provide participants with information for prevention and detection.
“Preventing Workplace Violence” will be facilitated by Thomas Ryan, MS, MBA, CSP, chairman for the occupational health and safety program at Central Maine Community College.
