BIDDEFORD (AP) – A Biddeford blanket manufacturing plant plans to lay off 42 employees.

WestPoint Home will lay off all second-shift employees on Friday, leaving 38 hourly and four salaried employees without work and the textile mill down to a single shift.

Biddeford City Councilor George Lamontagne, who has worked at the plant for 35 years, said employees were notified of the layoffs on Monday.

He told other city councilors that it would be sad if manufacturing at WestPoint, which has been in Biddeford since the mid-1800s, comes to an end, according to the Journal Tribune of Biddeford.
