AUBURN – The Androscoggin Historical Society will meet at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 23, at the Androscoggin County Building third floor. W. Dennis Stires, society president, will discuss “The History of Candy.”

The program is free to the public and is wheelchair accessible

Members of the audience will be encouraged to remember past locations of candy shops in Lewiston and Auburn.

The society library and museum are open from 9 a.m. to noon and 1 to 5 p.m. Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays and are accessible by elevator.

Caregiver talk

LEWISTON – An open discussion and gathering for all caregivers to talk with Androscoggin Home Health and Hospice about its special program for individuals nearing the end of life will be held from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 24, at SeniorsPlus, 8 Falcon Road, Fairgrounds Business Center.

The program is rooted in a philosophy that affirms a person’s right to quality of life and to make choices about care.

The program will tell about the support the agency provides to patients and their families throughout the dying and bereavement process.

OES degree

WALES – Lakeside Chapter 60, OES,will meet at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Oct. 26, at the Grange-Masonic Hall at 322 Centre Road.

The officers will exemplify degrees for a candidate. All members and visiting members are invited. There will be light refreshments after the meeting.

School fair

WAYNE – The Wayne School and Home Association will sponsor its annual craft fair from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 27, at Wayne Elementary School, Pond Road. There will be more than 20 crafters. Breakfast and lunch will be available, including muffins, coffee cake, stews, chowders and pizza. Proceeds will benefit enrichment programs.

New group

LEWISTON – A new caregiver support group will meet at Marshwood Center, 33 Roger Ave., from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. the fourth Monday of each month, sponsored by SeniorsPlus. For more information, contact Kathy Brill at 1-800-427-1241, ext. 133.

The group is for caregivers of a loved one who is above the age of 18 and is disabled or elderly to connect with other caregivers, share successes, reduce isolation, have mutual support, boost self-confidence, focus on well being and exchange ideas.
