Hebron society hears of inn’s history
HEBRON – The owners of the Greenwood Mountain Inn in Hebron recently hosted the Hebron Historical Society at a picnic and presentation of the building’s history, from its construction in 1897 to the present.
A new recreation and conference facility next to the inn provided the venue for the talk, which included a 1930s film on the Western Maine Tuberculosis Sanatorium, which was located across from the inn. The original function of the inn was to provide lodging for guests and visitors of the sanatorium.
The next society meeting will be held at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 23, at the Hebron Town Office. The speaker will be noted local historian Ben Conant, who will give a history of the apple industry in the Hebron area. It will be open to the public.
