As a taxpayer, I want students to stay in school, not get kicked out because of some school superintendent’s liberal agenda. What happens in school, should stay in school.

Maine’s attorney general was correct in not considering the ham incident at Lewiston Middle School as a hate crime complaint, because a pending federal law, H.R. 1592, the Law Enforcement Hate Crimes Prevention Act, has not yet passed the Senate. Rep. Tom Allen and Rep. Mike Michaud are co-sponsors of the bill.

The act would provide federal support to states, local governments and Indian tribes for prosecuting hate crimes.

Lewiston School Superintendent Leon Levesque exceeded his authority in considering what happened a “hate incident” and has made a spectacle of himself and the city with his libel lawsuit against Fox News.

We live in a world of mass media coverage, and people will use their freedom to express their disgust with him.

If he can’t stand the heat, he should quit.

Better still, perhaps the people of Lewiston should fire him.

Lawrence J. Dudzic, Lewiston
