RUMFORD – Vinal E. Thompson, 86, died Wednesday, Oct. 17, at the Rumford Hospital. He was a resident of Riverside Park Road in Mexico.
He was born in East Millinockett, Dec. 28, 1920, a son of Edward and Annie B. (Handy) Thompson. He was a graduate of Medway High School, Class of 1937, as salutatorian. He worked as a first class machinist for Diamond International in Dixfield.
He was a member of First Baptist Church of Mexico and the historical society. He enjoyed woodworking, camping and photography. He was an avid Red Sox fan and he loved his family.
He was married in Mexico, on Aug. 2, 1941, to Esley Philbrick, who survives, of Mexico.
Other survivors include two sons, Peter Thompson and his wife, Kathleen, of Mexico and Mark Thompson and his wife, Gail, of Peru; two daughters, Carol Thibeault and her husband, Joe, of Mexico and Patti Stewart and her husband, Greg, of Lakeland, Fla.; two sisters, Charlene Cormier and Gloria Sites of Sabattus; grandchildren, Dan Thibeault, Master Sgt. Jeffrey Thibeault, USAF, Troy Thibeault, Tricia Blouin, Pamela Redstone, Lisa Thompson, Erin Thompson and Brodie Thompson; and 10 great-grandchildren.
He was predeceased by two children, Vinal Jr. and Colleen; and two brothers, Ray and Aubrey.
