AUBURN – Lewiston-Auburn Community Little Theatre will hold auditions for its January production of “The Laramie Project” Sunday, Oct. 21, and Tuesday, Oct. 23, at the Great Falls Performing Arts Center.
“The Laramie Project” has a cast of eight actors who portray a total of more than 60 characters. The ambitious and challenging play with language and content geared to adults is directed by Linda Britt, assisted by Ellen Peters.
The play by Moises Kaufman and members of Tectonic Theater Project is based on the true story of a hate crime – the brutal murder of Matthew Shepard, a gay college student, in Laramie, Wy., in 1998. After news of the murder spread across the nation, members of the Tectonic Theater Project traveled to Wyoming and conducted more than 200 interviews with townspeople, friends of Matthew, friends of the perpetrators, ministers, educators, police officers and students. They sought to understand how it could have happened, how it affected the people of that small town and how the town healed. Those 200 interviews became the basis of “The Laramie Project.”
