LEWISTON – The annual L-A March of Dimes Chefs Auction, featuring samplings of some of the finest dishes and treats prepared by area chefs, will be held Monday, Nov. 5, at the Ramada Conference Center.
And a group of youngsters, all of whom were born prematurely – one girl weighing a mere 15 ounces at birth – have created artwork they hope will attract bidders at the auction.
Together, they created a 60- by 100-inch mural of a field of lupins. They also did paintings of colorful tropical birds, sea horses and sunflowers that have been framed and will also go on the auction block.
With guidance from and materials provided by Kristina Gallant, owner of Doodlebugs Art Studio, the children expressed themselves on canvas using their knuckles, fingertips and feet – as well as crayons and popsicle sticks (instead of paintbrushes).
The creative March of Dimes “ambassadors” are Alec Beaudin, Deni Frederico, Colby Hamblin, Carly Jordan, Carter Jordan, Dylan Latham, Peyton Latham, Emily Shulze, Sylvia Shulze, Dennis Tufts and Levi Tufts.
Eateries participating in the March of Dimes fundraiser include Antonio’s New York Deli & Bakery, Cafe Bon Bon, Central Maine Community College Culinary Arts, Deschaies Lobster Salad & Seafood Products, Dore’s Cafe, Graziano’s Casa Mia, Heather’s Bakery, Holly’s Own Deli & Wine Bar, Nothing But The Blues Cafe, Ramada Conference Center, Rolly’s Diner, The Carriage House Cafe, Margaritas Mexican Restaurant and Wei-Li Restaurant.
Besides the food and silent and live auctions, there will be a raffle for a 1 carat diamond from Day’s Jewelry and a social hour with a complimentary wine and beer bar.
The cost is $35 per person, $60 per couple and $600 for a corporate table.
