AUGUSTA – John D. McInnis, 85, of Kennebec Street, died Oct. 19, at Maine Veterans Home.
He was born Oct. 14, 1922, in Rumford, the son of John and Arlene (Albert) McInnis. He was educated in Rumford schools and graduated in 1940.
He was employed with the original Oxford Paper Co., then the Ethyl Cooperation, and retired with 40-plus years of service from Boise Cascade as a maintenance supervisor in 1984.
He served in the Army in the South Pacific Island’s with the 497th Anti-Aircraft Artillery Gun Battalion as a 90-mm gun sergeant from 1943 to 1946.
He was a life member of the Rumford Lodge of Elks 862, a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1641, the American Legion Post 24, the Rumford Eagles 1248, and the Sons of Italy Lodge 467 of Rumford. He was also a member of the 25-and 40-year clubs of Boise Cascade.
Survivors include his wife, the former Rose M. Buccina, whom he married Jan. 16, 1943; two sons, John Jr. and wife, Janet, of Scarborough and Timothy and wife, Brenda, of Rumford; and two grandchildren, Melissa of Corpus Christi, Texas, and T.J. of Tampa, Fla.
