This is in response to Herb Bunker from Auburn, who didn’t seem to understand why changing the name of Squaw Point to Squall Point would still be offensive. He correctly pulled from his dictionary the definition of Squall. He also correctly indicated if the homeowners named their neighborhood Stormy Point, there would have been no outcry.

Mr. Bunker should have thought on a higher level than definitions. The word “squaw” is offensive to a large group of people. Camouflaging the word into another word does not change the intent or the hurt it causes people.
