Cushing – Helen Scarci Klokholm, 92, died Saturday, Oct. 20, following a brief illness at The Homestead in Cushing, where she resided since May 2004.

She was born on July 4, 1915, in Stonington, the daughter of Marino and Maria (Tomaso) Scarci. She graduated from Stonington High School where she excelled in sports, especially basketball. A fond memory of hers was having played against Livermore Falls at Murray Hall. On Sept. 24, 1943, she married Erik Klokholm in Rockland. He passed away Feb. 12.

Helen worked in many upscale department stores in New York City and Boston. In the early 60s, she worked as librarian at Temple University while her husband attended graduate school. She was very well traveled, moving with her husband’s increasing job responsibilities and business trips. They lived in Stamford, Conn., while he was employed by IBM. Upon his retirement, they moved to Ashlar Village in Wallingford, Conn., before moving to Thornton Oaks in Brunswick. In 2002, she moved to Bartlett Woods in Rockland. Helen’s interest included reading, gardening, skiing, sailing, and she loved to dance.

She is survived by two nieces, Margaret (Scarci) Wagner and her husband, Clayton, of Livermore Falls and Nancy Scarci of Hawaii; four nephews, James Dunn and his wife, Mary, of Pepperell, Mass., Frank Dunn of Pepperell, Mass., John Ingalls of Chicago and Frank Scarci of Florida.

She was predeceased by two brothers, Frank and Angelo Scarci; and two sisters, Edith Dunn and Albina Ingalls.
