MEXICO – The Mexico Lions Club has held their twice-monthly meetings at the Rumford Eagles Club for several years. The Eagles have allowed the Lions to gather in a function room free of charge.

Club President Jim Theriault has announced that beginning with the Tuesday, Oct. 23, meeting they will convene at the Mexico Recreation Center. Members voted to accept the Recreation Department’s offer to use a room for their gatherings at the Oct. 9 meeting.

Theriault said that he and his fellow Lions are excited about the change. In order to fund their charitable programs, it takes a great deal of volunteer effort and having a place dedicated exclusively to Lions Club needs will be a help.

Plans for expanding their activities are already being discussed. “This is a big step,” he said.

Among other things, the Lions aid individuals and families with eye-care and hearing difficulties, a major element of the organization’s mission.

Theriault said, “Without their (the Eagles) support it would have been very difficult for our members to assist so many people over the years.”

Lions Club meetings are open to the public and Theriault invites those interested in joining or anyone who wants to know more about the Lions to attend meetings at 6:30 p.m. the second and fourth Tuesday of the month. A meal is offered at each meeting.

“Come and join us in serving people that simply need a little help,” Theriault concluded.
