Poland Spring values good relations with our communities and we work collaboratively to determine the most appropriate sites for our facilities. Our “Good Neighbor Policy” promotes open and transparent communication, responsible spring water resource management, traffic mitigation, exemplary employment practices, water education, emergency relief and community giving.
Water is a renewable natural resource, like forest products, fisheries and agriculture, all of which are transported by truck. That’s why the Maine Department of Transportation designated a “Heavy Haul Network” of roads throughout the state, including Route 302 through Fryeburg.
Poland Spring is continually reducing our environmental footprint. Our new “Eco-Shape” half-liter bottle uses less plastic than other comparable bottles on the market today. We are promoting better recycling programs to keep all plastic food and beverage containers out of landfills. We are reducing our carbon footprint by switching our entire trucking fleet in Maine to biodiesel. We manage our water sources for sustainability and work with regulators and community groups to monitor and protect groundwater resources.
All of our plants constructed since LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) was introduced have achieved this certification for clean, green manufacturing. And we invest significantly in environmental conservation, partnering with Chewonki, The Nature Conservancy, the Trust for Public Land and others to protect and build understanding for Maine’s natural resources.
A new Poland Spring facility would have a positive effect on Maine’s economy through new tax revenue, new sources of income for local businesses and new jobs.
