LEWISTON – The California Guitar Trio, made up of three musicians from three different continents, will perform Thursday, Oct. 25, at The Maple Room.

Paul Richards, from the United States, Bert Lams of Belgium and Hideyo Moriya of Japan met when they participated in Robert Fripp’s intensive Guitar Craft Courses and the subsequent tours of Fripp’s League of Crafty Guitarists. In 1991, they reconvened in Los Angeles and formed The California Guitar Trio.

Their guitar pyrotechnics and their sly sense of humor have won the group an avid following.

As the UK’s Acoustic Magazine points out: “Put classically trained Bert Lams, surf rock enthusiast Hideyo Moriya, and Led Zeppelin-loving rock and jazz player Paul Richards together in the same room – and you can expect fireworks.”

Over the past 16 years of nearly incessant international touring, the California Guitar Trio has shared the stage with such artists as King Crimson, Jon Anderson, John McLaughlin, John Scofield, Tito Puente and Taj Mahal.

The trio will perform at 7:30 p.m. Tickets, $35, are available online at www.themapleroom.info. The Maple Room is at 22 Park St.
