AUBURN – Reba Hatfield Wilmot, 87, of Lewiston Junction Road, Poland, died Sunday, Oct. 21, at the Androscoggin Home Hospice House, after a brief illness.
She was born in Mexico on Dec. 8, 1919, the daughter of Herbert and Annie (Glover) Hatfield and had been a resident of this community for the past 25 years. She was educated in Mexico schools and then dedicated her life as a foster parent in Dixfield.
She married Frederick A. Wilmot Jr. on Oct. 13, 1982. He died on Dec. 28, 1992. She enjoyed her birds and her cat “Baby,” looked forward to her daily trips to Dunkin’ Donuts for coffee with her friend, Sally, and most of all she enjoyed spending quality time with her family and friends.
She touched the hearts of all who knew her and put other people’s needs before her own.
She is survived by a special friend, Sally Bartlett of Poland; one brother, Roland Hatfield and his wife, Barbara, of Auburn; two half sisters, Shirley Bates of Bethel and Pearl White of New Hampshire; two special granddaughters, Lorie Keough and her husband, Larry, of Buckfield and Gwen Golden of Auburn; two great-granddaughters, Courtney and Kassandra Keough; a sister-in-law, Dot Frye of South Portland; many nieces and nephews; as well as one special niece, Josephine Bradeen of Auburn; and her special neighbors, Susan Reny, Cindy Perry and Ginny McAllister.
She was predeceased by her husband; two daughters, Sandra Hatfield and Pauline Alimandi; one brother, Herbert Hatfield Jr.; and her foster mother and father, Alfred and Adelaide Elliott.
The family wishes to thank the staff at the Hospice House of Androscoggin, Dr. Roger Austin and Dr. Darleen Miller for the excellent care they have provided for Reba.
