AUGUSTA (AP) – Maine’s latest weekly survey of home heating oil prices found the average cash price for No. 2 oil jumped 9 cents to $2.79 per gallon statewide, or 56 cents above the price at this time last year.

Prices ranged from a low of $2.58 to a high of $3, both at dealers in the southwestern part of the state. Average kerosene prices rose 8 cents to $3.18 a gallon and propane for residential heating was up 13 cents to $2.69 a gallon.

The Office of Energy Independence and Security said the increases reflect rising crude oil prices, which last week surpasseed $90 a barrel.

The agency also noted that New England heating oil inventories as of Oct. 12 were 519,000 barrels less than last year at this time.
