Teddy Bear Fair

LEWISTON – Mu Chapter, Delta Kappa Gamma Society International, an organization that promotes professional and personal growth of women educators and excellence in education, is sponsoring the Teddy Bear Fair from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 27, at the Lewiston High School cafeteria.

Tables will include baked goods, books, holiday crafts, harvest items, Saturday night special (beans), snack bar, teddy bears and a white elephant sale. Proceeds will go to college scholarships for local high school students.

Knitting club

AUBURN – The Knitting Club will meet at 6 p.m. Mondays through the fall and winter at the Auburn Public Library.

VFW meeting

LEWISTON – The Longley-Dionne VFW Post 9150 will meet at noon Sunday, Oct. 28, at the Elks Lodge, 1675 Lisbon St. All officers and members are encouraged to attend.

The agenda will include membership; poppies for Dec. 1, 2 and 3 at Shaw’s Lewiston and Marden’s, volunteers needed; Patriot’s Pen and Voice of Democracy essay contests. Veterans eligible for the VFW and wishing to join are welcome.

Halloween event

LEWISTON – The Jesus Party, 291 Bates St., will present a “Heavenly House” experience from 5 to 7 p.m. on Halloween, Wednesday, Oct. 31, during its 10th annual open house and Holy Ghost candy buffet.

The event is not a party, and children should not be dropped off. Rather, it is a walk-through experience. The decor and atmosphere have been selected to accommodate the youngest children. For more information, call 786-5568.

Free skating

LEWISTON – Free skating will be offered by the Lewiston Recreation Department and Global Spectrum from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 31, at the Androscoggin Bank Colisee.

Children ages pre-school through grade six, are invited to a Halloween party at the Colisee, 190 Birch St. They can attend in costume for games, prizes, face painting, music and skating. For safety reasons, no masks or loose flowing costumes will be allowed on the ice.

Seniors to meet

SABATTUS – Sabattus Senior Citizens met at Little Dan’s Barbecue with 40 members attending. They then went to Maxwell Hall for a meeting and bingo, Bob Tanguay, vice president, presided over the meeting as the president was on a trip to China. He will be back for the November meeting.

The Thursday, Nov. 1, meal will be a Thanksgiving dinner of turkey and all the fixings at Maxwell Hall, followed by a meeting and bingo. More than 90 members have signed up for the meal. Those who wish to attend should call Doris Pelletier at 784-7950.

Sign-up sheets will be available for the Dec. 6 meal, which will be roast pork. The cook will be Doris Pelletier.

Possible trip

LEWISTON – The Lewiston Senior Citizens would like to offer a trip to the Portland Symphony Orchestra’s “Magic of Christmas,” but are not sure if there is any interest.

Anyone who would be interested in going to a performance is asked to call the Lewiston Senior Citizens office at 784-2926, ext. 207. If there is enough interest, a trip will be scheduled.

Tables available

WALES – The fourth annual holiday craft fair benefiting Oak Hill High School’s class of 2008 and 2009 will be held from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 3.

Admission is free. Events include 50-50 raffle and refreshments. Tables are available to rent for $25 for a 10-foot space with six-foot table. Call 375-4950, ext. 130, for details.

Holiday fest

LEWISTON – Trinity Catholic School will have its second annual Holiday Festival from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 10, at the junior high campus, 393 Main St.

There will be crafts/holiday gifts, adult/child raffle tables, child games/activities, food and refreshments, a cake walk and other baked goods for sale. Santa will visit all day. Charity ride

GREENE – Bruce Myrick and John Schott sponsored an off-road motorcycle charity ride to benefit the Greene Women’s Club Christmas Program on Sept. 30.

Thirty-five invited riders and members of the Pine Tree Trail Riders donated more than $500. Brenda Theriault of the Greene Women’s Club assisted with registration. The ride was held on 10 miles of trails located on land owned by John Schott and adjacent land owned by George Schott.

After the ride, Bruce and Rita Myrick of Maine Cycle and Dave and Christine Bishop hosted a cookout.

Bridge play

LEWISTON – The Lewiston-Auburn Social Bridge Club winners at the Multi-Purpose Center on Oct. 22 were: first, Lucille Bilodeau and Larry Fortier; second, Sue Kaluzynski and Nancy Lindgren; third, Dick Allen and Pete Cummings; fourth, Jan Arey and Linda Leotsakos; first in B, Cynthia and Bill Clifford; second in B, Eileen Potvin and Della Starbird.

Games are played at 9 a.m. Mondays and a partner is guaranteed. Call Rosemarie Goodwin at 754- 1431 for information about all bridge games.
