BRUNSWICK – Christian Augustus Nelson Jr., 88, of Freeport, died Friday, Oct. 19, at Parkview Adventist Medical Center.

He was born March 8, 1919, in Cambridge, Mass., the son of Dr. Christian A. Nelson and Anita Louise Nelson. He graduated from Cambridge schools.

On Nov. 6, 1943, he married Gertrude Elizabeth Lindroth at the Swedish Baptist Church in Cambridge. They resided in Cambridge and Woburn. In their retirement, they lived on Staples Point Road in Freeport then on Stackpole Road in Durham. She predeceased him in 2003.

He retired in 1981 after more than 30 years at Raytheon Corp. His hobbies included woodworking, photography and pipe organ repair.

He was a former member of Evangel Baptist Church in Belmont, Mass., and since 1986, a member of the First Baptist Church of Freeport.

He is survived by his sister, Gloria Goewey of Holden, Mass.; as well as nieces and nephews.
