LEWISTON – Vera N. Breton, 91, of Gould Road, Lisbon Falls, died on Tuesday, Oct. 23, at Montello Manor with her family at her side.

She was born in Sabattus on Dec. 14, 1915, the daughter of Annie (McGrath) Jackson Gayton and Charles Jackson. She married Lionel R. Breton on Nov. 11, 1933 in Hallowell, and was predeceased by him on July 4, 1963.

She was a very active member of St. Matthew’s Episcopal Church and worked for the Lisbon school lunch program until arthritis forced her into retirement. She enjoyed knitting, reading (especially her Bible), and loved to cook and entertain. Longevity allowed her to touch many lives with her good will, faith and positive attitude. Her greatest pleasure came from helping others. Family and friends will be forever grateful for her unconditional love, encouragement and strength.

She spent many years wintering in Texas, with her daughter and family and enjoyed being with her grandchildren there. She also spent many of her summers at her camp on the Lower Narrows Pond, located in Winthrop. There she enjoyed entertaining her friends and family, just like her mother, Annie Gayton did.

In her later years, she experienced great pleasure sitting in her kitchen on her beloved farm located on the Gould Road in Lisbon Falls, looking out into the yard and watching her grandchildren and great-grandchildren play and grow.

She is survived by two sons, Ronald Breton and his wife, Lilliette, of Harpswell and Richard Breton and his wife, Candace, of Lisbon Falls; a daughter, Shannon Wietz and her husband, Wayne, of Boerne, Texas; 10 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; a very special niece, Rae Lawrence and her husband, Noyes; a brother-in-law, Roger Breton and his wife, Jeannette and their five daughters.

She was predeceased by a sister, Maude Alexander, in 1983; two brothers, Norman Jackson in 1987 and William Jackson in 1988.

Vera’s family would like to thank the wonderful staff of Montello Manor and the wonderful folks from Androscoggin Home Care and Hospice, for the loving care of their mother. Her family would also like to give a special thanks to St. Matthew’s Episcopal Church and her friends there, for their loving support and visits over the many years.
