Rumford magic
RUMFORD – The Historical Society has learned of another distinguished man from Rumford who helped to make his home town famous: Dr. James William Elliott, master card manipulator.
Because of him, Rumford was named by the Maine Society of Magicians as “Maine’s Capital of Magic.” Elliott was born in Milton Plantation in 1874 and received his medical degree from Harvard University. He spent more time manipulating cards.
He always spoke of Rumford as his home and when he died in 1920 he was buried in Abbott Cemetery in Rumford Corner.
Because the last week in October is National Magic Week, Scott Grassette and his daughter, Kaitlyn, presented the program, and included some card magic of their own.
