CHESTERVILLE – Two family members were arrested Wednesday when marijuana and drug paraphernalia were found after one of them had called police to have the other removed from the home, police said.

Joseph Harris, 62, and his stepson, Shawn Griffin, 40, both of Chesterville were arrested after Franklin County sheriff’s deputies and a Maine drug enforcement agent searched their Adams Road property, sheriff’s Lt. Niles Yeaton said.

Harris was charged with trafficking in scheduled drugs and Griffin was charged with unlawful furnishing of scheduled drugs, he said.

Apparently, Harris had called police because he wanted to have his stepson removed from the residence, Yeaton said.

When deputies responded to that call, they saw evidence of drug trafficking and furnishing of marijuana at the home, he said, adding that marijuana and drug paraphernalia were observed.

Detective Tom White got a search warrant and he, Detective David St. Laurent and deputies David Rackliffe with drug-detecting trained police dog Odin, Michelle St. Clair, Cpl. Nate Bean and a MDEA agent conducted a search.

Yeaton said a rough estimate of the amount of marijuana seized was about 1 pounds, which was divided into several bags, and some drug paraphernalia including scales.

In a separate incident Wednesday, police recovered about another pound of marijuana at another residence, Yeaton said.

That case is still under investigation.
