RUMFORD – Mountain Valley High School Boosters will hold a bottle drive on Sunday, Oct. 28, in Rumford and Mexico. Those who wish can donate empty bottles to the Boosters at the Waldo Street Bottle Redemption Depot.
Last year Boosters gave close to $20,000 for awards and scholarships to student athletes. Now Booster funds are at an all time low. The Boosters are looking for new members to help raise funds to support the school athletes.
Boosters has adopted a bylaw that is present in other schools in Maine. In order for a student athlete to be eligible for an award from the Boosters, a parent, guardian, the student or friend of an athlete must volunteer for one fundraising event in the season in which the athlete plays. If there is no volunteer time provided in the season, a student will still be able to get the championship award, but must purchase it at the cost to Boosters.
In addition to the bottle drive, the final fall fundraising event for the Boosters will be apparel sales at the first play-off game for the Class B Western Maine Region Football. Any parent, friend or student still has an opportunity to volunteer at one of the events to qualify fall sport season students for Booster awards.
The Boosters will next meet on Tuesday, Nov. 20, at Mountain Valley High School.
