LEWISTON – Newbery Honor and Caldecott Honor-winning author/artist Tomie dePaola creates laugh-out-loud characters and stories from New Hampshire and Vermont in his newest book, “Tomie dePaola’s Front Porch Tales & North Country Whoppers.”
The author/storyteller will be Mr. Paperback, 855 Lisbon St. at 1:30 p.m. Monday, Nov. 5.
DePaola shares tales of “Mothah Skunk” and the night she had to move out with her kits because Sherman Curtis smelled so bad; the escapades of Big Gertie Benson, the lumberjack’s cook and a cousin of the Bunyans in the Midwest; and George Petty, who delivered the mail even during mud season by standing on the back of his horse with only his head sticking out of the muck.
DePaola (www.tomie.com) lives in New London, N.H. He also received the Smithsonian Medal and was designated a “living treasure” by the state of New Hampshire.
