OXFORD – A 44-year-old Raymond woman was LifeFlighted to Central Maine Medical Center in Lewiston after falling asleep at the wheel Friday afternoon on Route 26.

Danielle Lewis did not sustain life-threatening injuries in the accident, said Chief Jon Tibbetts of the Oxford Police Department.

She was in critical condition at the hospital Friday night, a nursing supervisor said.

Lewis’ 1999 GMC pickup truck, which was heading north at the time, was totaled after colliding with an axle of a southbound crane truck driven by Marc Lajoie, 53, of Poland. Lajoie was not injured.

Tibbetts said fire departments from Oxford, Poland, and Mechanic Falls responded to the scene, as well as rescue units from Oxford and Poland. The Oxford Police Department and Oxford County Sheriff’s Office were also on scene.

Traffic was detoured over Route 121 and Lane Road.
