AUBURN – The Great Falls Model Railroad Club is sponsoring a model train show from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 3, at the Auburn Middle School. A variety of layouts in different scales will be on display for children and adults. Dealers from around New England will offer modeling supplies and equipment for sale. There will be train pictures, slides, videos and DVDs available. Admission is $4 for adults and $2 for under 15.
The Auburn Music Association benefits from the show by selling refreshments. This is one of the largest fundraising activities for the music association during the school year.
One of the features of the show is the play area provided for children near the layouts in the cafeteria.
The Great Falls Model Railroad Club is celebrating its 20th anniversary as a nonprofit organization. Members have participated in the Great Falls Balloon Festival, library railroad specials, Santa’s arrival after Thanksgiving, special exhibits at local nursing homes and veterans’ homes and Advocates for Children activities.
The club also provides guest speakers who promote railroad safety through the Operation Lifesaver volunteer program. This is the 34th annual Lewiston-Auburn show. It was started by local modelers Al Thurston and Wally Chase, who have been responsible for the show’s growth through the years and are still active in model railroading.
