AUBURN – Donald C. Butters, 56, of Norway, quietly passed away at the Hospice House on Sunday, Oct. 28, with his loving family by his side.

He was born in Lewiston on Oct. 12, 1951, son to the late Arthur Butters and Elizabeth (Moore) Butters Preble.

On April 10, 1982, he married the former Brenda Hilligoss at their lakeside home in Norway.

Donnie graduated from Oxford Hills Comprehensive High School in 1970. He worked for Raynor Brown in Waterford as a heavy equipment operator, and then continued to work for Cianbro Corp. after they bought out Raynor Brown, until 1979. He then worked for P.H. Chadbourne and Son until he formed his own excavation business; Don Butters Excavation business in 1984. In March of 2000, he was diagnosed with low grade non-Hodgkins lymphoma and lung cancer. He made a full recovery from lung cancer, but continued to battle lymphoma for the following seven and a half years.

He was a lover of the great outdoors and loved going to camp and fishing the rivers and lakes and secret ponds of northwestern Maine. When fishing ended and the snows came he couldn’t wait to take his sled to camp and explore the woods and hills, while hunting for moose horns.

He is survived by his loving wife, Brenda of Norway; daughter, Danielle and her friend, Matthew McCartney; his mother, Elizabeth (Moore) Butters Preble of Norway; brothers, Stephen Butters and life partner, Paula and Edward Butters and wife, Nita, all of Norway; stepbrothers, David Preble and wife, Becky, of South Paris and Jeffrey Preble and wife, Joanne, of Auburn; special friends, Peter and Becky Roy of South Paris.

He was known and loved by many people in the Oxford Hills area and will be sadly missed by all who knew him.
