PHILLIPS – A Phillips man was released from jail Sunday on $500 cash bail after police say they searched his residence on Toothaker Pond Saturday afternoon and seized more than 3½ pounds of processed marijuana and other drug-related items.

Franklin County Sheriff’s Detective Tom White arrested Shawn Coolong, 44, on a charge of felony unlawful trafficking in a schedule Z drug. Coolong is scheduled to appear on Dec. 28 in Franklin County Superior Court in Farmington, county sheriff Lt. Niles Yeaton said Monday.

Coolong’s arrest is part of an on-going investigation into illegal drug trafficking in the Franklin County area, Yeaton said.

Franklin County deputies and a drug-detection trained police dog, Odin, along with a Maine Drug Enforcement agent executed a search warrant at Coolong’s home Saturday afternoon, Yeaton said.

Besides the more than 3½ pounds of dried, processed marijuana that was confiscated, Yeaton said, a screen used for drying marijuana, some cigarette rolling papers, two grow-light bulbs and smaller quantities of drying marijuana were seized.

The marijuana is being sent to a state laboratory to determine its weight, he added.

An attempt to reach Coolong at his Phillips home was unsuccessful Monday afternoon.
