JAY – Building Committee members plan to meet again on Tuesday, Nov. 6, to continue review of bids to renovate a former restaurant into a new town office and police station.

The architect wasn’t able to meet with representatives of the two low bidders to see if there could be any cost saving on the project before Monday’s committee meeting, Town Manager Ruth Marden said.

Ten bids were received for the project, ranging from a base of $598,800 with three alternative bids for a generator, sound system and siding that needed to be factored in, to $768,033.

The bids are all more than the $440,000 the town has to spend on the renovations.

The two lowest bidders were Zachau Construction of Freeport and Taylor Made Homes of Wilton, Marden said.

After adding in alternative bids, Zachau Construction’s bid price is about $634,800 and Taylor Made Homes is $633,665, but there are some adds and subtractions that still need to be figured out.

Selectmen have opted to have no meeting on Nov. 6, and instead the Building Committee will meet that evening at 6 at the Jay-Niles Memorial Library in North Jay to discuss options, Marden said.
