Dear Sun Spots: I am a Turner resident looking for a piano instructor who will teach a chordal method for playing popular music. Thanks for any help. – Chordless in Turner.
Answer: Sun Spots wonders if you contacted any of the local music stores. For starters you might contact Carroll’s Music & School Center, 160 Canal St., Lewiston, ME 04240, 782-2545 to discuss your needs. They do offer music, voice, piano and such classes. You can also check online at www.carrollsmusic.com. Also, you might consider checking www.amazon.com. It carries a paperback book, “Play Piano In A Flash,” which focuses on playing the melody with the right hand (one note at a time) and simple chords with the left hand.
Dear Sun Spots: I wonder if your readers want to add fun and play to their lives in the coming years? Something delightful to balance the work we adults do.
Reading aloud at a licensed home-based child care from a prepacked bag of books could be just the thing!
BookReach, from the Auburn and Lewiston public libraries, is looking for committed, reliable volunteers to read to children under age 5 one weekday morning, for about 20 to 30 minutes, every one or two weeks. The picture books are colorful and fun, and their stories can stimulate the joy of opening books. Plus, a reader brings the spoken word with beautiful art work, which can help to develop language skills and wider vocabulary. Those interested in learning more, and/or talking with those already involved with BookReach, may call Kathleen Demers, BookReach Coordinator, at 784-0135, ext. 213, to begin the process of adding something fun and rewarding to life. – Kathleen Demers, Lewiston.
Dear Sun Spots: I have been doing my fall cleaning, and I have a 6-foot, artificial, Christmas tree to give away for free. It is still in a box and has been used a few times in the past. I may be reached at 777-4623. – Judy Kaechele, Auburn.
Dear Sun Spots: A few weeks ago there was a letter in Sun Spots referencing a found cane at Hannaford in Lewiston. My cane is straight, with no stabilizers on the bottom, aluminum and with a rubber grip on the bottom. The handle is a half curve with a vinyl cover. I have lost the contact information. Would the person who found this cane please call me at 786-5326. – Claudette Poulin, No Town.
Answer: Sun Spots had an item in about the Boston Post Cane but nothing about a found cane. Perhaps readers who may have located this or know of its location would be willing to contact you. Sun Spots wishes you the best in your search.
Dear Sun Spots: I discovered a daily diary dated 1942 with the following name and address, “Mrs. June Spofford, 31 Orange Street, Lewiston, Maine.” I’d like to locate any heirs or relatives/children who might be interested in this keepsake before I throw it out. I may be reached at P.O. Box 102, East Boothbay, ME 04544. – Tom Cornell, East Boothbay.
Dear Sun Spots: I am looking for someone who works professionally on cuckoo clocks. My antique clock needs cleaning. I am also looking for a store that sells those old-fashioned, double-edged razors our fathers used to use to buy for my son. Does anyone know where anyone sells them? Thank you for your help. – Justina in Peru.
Answer: In addition to responses from readers, contact Rohman Clockworks at 721 Lake St., Auburn. They repair antique and modern clocks, including cuckoo clocks and grandfather clocks. For more information or to set up an appointment with them, please call 784-1211.
