FARMINGTON – Heirlooms of Tomorrow will welcome Johnna G. Haskell as Artist of the Month for November. An open house to introduce her work will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday, Nov. 2, and 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 3. Haskell will be available to discuss her technique, and refreshments will be served.

Haskell has her PhD in curriculum studies/science education from the University of British Columbia, Vancouver. She completed her MSEd in educational leadership from the University of Southern Maine. She attained her BS degree in animal science at the University of New Hampshire while minoring in studio art and outdoor education.

After 18 years as an educator in secondary science, administration and university teaching, Haskell has settled into the Western Maine woods. She has published several journal articles on practices in the outdoors, co-edited a book, “Unfolding Bodymind: Exploring Possibility Through Education,” and has her Sugarloaf photo on the cover of “The Story of Sugarloaf” by John Christie, published by Downeast.

Haskell is a native of Maine, growing up on a 300-acre farm in Rome. She has explored the outdoors via canoe, kayak, skis, rock and ice climbing and backpacking. As a young child, she enjoyed viewing her grandparents’ slides of wildlife. She resides in Carrabassett Valley, where she views the animals directly through her own camera lens.

Haskell spends most of her time in the Maine woods on lakes and streams looking for wildlife. She will display a variety of pictures of Maine wildlife, plants and scenic vistas.

Heirlooms of Tomorrow is located at 710 Wilton Road. Store hours are Monday, Thursday and Friday 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. and Saturday from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.
