McLaughlin opens new exhibit

PARIS – The McLaughlin Garden of South Paris has announced the completion of a new multi-media educational exhibit on the history of the site from 1840 to the present.

Almost a year in the making, the new exhibit features historical photos, text and never-before-seen pictures of the McLaughlin Garden dating back to the 1940s.

The exhibit, which is housed in the visitor center wing of the ca. 1840 barn at McLaughlin Garden, also features a four-minute video on the history of the garden, as well as six 4×6-foot photos of the property from different periods.

Many of the photos and text were given to the garden by Richard Tribou McLaughlin. The concept was created by McLaughlin Foundation Executive Director Michael P. Desplaines, who sought grant funding for the exhibit.

Funding came, in part, from Maine Community Foundation and Maine Humanities Council. The exhibit is open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Saturday, along with the buildings and gift shop. The grounds of the McLaughlin Garden remain open daily, weather permitting, from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m.
