LEWISTON – The Sharing Through Experience Pregnancy and Infant Loss Support Group held its fourth annual “Walk to Remember” on Oct. 15.
The walk honors National Pregnancy and Infant Loss Awareness Month.
The event kicked off in front of the Memorial Garden at the Women’s Pavilion, St. Mary’s Regional Medical Center. A prayer was provided by Jeff McNear, acknowledging all of those who have experienced a pregnancy or infant loss.
A total of 169 walkers proceeded, with balloons in hand, on a 2.2 mile stroll to Central Maine Medical Center and back. More than $8,600 was raised to benefit the Colby Fund.
The walk closed with a symbolic rose ceremony where women who had experienced a loss were presented a white rose in memory of their loved ones. A traditional balloon release took place.
The Colby Fund assists bereaved parents and families emotionally and financially. The Sharing Through Experience Pregnancy and Infant Loss Support Group meets the third Tuesday of every month from 7 to 8:30 p.m., alternating between CMMC and St. Mary’s as a meeting site.
