You can always tell when it’s time to vote – beggars come out of the woodwork and offer bond issues. It’s free money to them and higher taxes to us.

Proponents claim it’s for the betterment of the state. Of course, they have been saying that for years and we are still one of the worst-taxed states in this country.

The reality is money from those bond issues is for the betterment of the people behind the bond issues.

When are people going to realize we are being conned out of our hard-earned money? When has money from a bond issue actually helped an already overtaxed and overburdened Maine family? Are oil and gas prices coming down? What about food prices and electric bills? Has any bond issue raised a salary?

How many people have no other choice but to use a credit card to feed family? How many are on the brink of bankruptcy even though working three jobs?

Towns, state and special interest groups all want to squeeze the lifeblood out of Maine families without remorse.

I think it’s about time voters cut the umbilical cord by voting “no” on money issues.

For more than 50 years, nothing has worked to lower taxes, so why spend any more?

I say, vote “no” on all bond issues, or any issue that requires more money. Let state officials tighten belts for awhile, as taxpayers have been doing for 50 years.
