FARMINGTON – Some good things get better with age.

Hosting their 25th annual ski and snowboard sale on Nov. 10, members of the Farmington Ski Club would probably agree.

The sale will run from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Mt. Blue High School.

What started as basically a ski equipment swap held in the lodge at Titcomb Mountain has turned into a day where up to 1,000 items of used equipment are sold, said Karleen Andrews, Titcomb’s manager.

Moved from the lodge to Mt. Blue High School years ago, she said, the event now also has four vendors who each bring up to 400 to 600 items to sell.

“When we open the door at 8 a.m. there is usually a line of people down the hall and out the door. Then it’s off to the races when we open the door,” she said.

It’s a great opportunity to outfit beginners or children, she said, as they often outgrow items before they wear out. Like ski boots for instance, she said, there are usually three 30-foot tables full of used boots to choose from, not counting what vendors have.

Those with equipment to sell can bring it to the high school from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday.

There is a 50-cent fee per item to enter the sale and 15 percent of sale proceeds go to the club.

Volunteers help check in equipment, tag and identify it, she said, while others bring stuff to racks.

It can take up to 50 volunteers to help set up, run and clean after the sale.

Students from the University of Maine Farmington ski team and club volunteers provide support during the sale to shoppers who may not be familiar with how to size ski equipment, she added.

A 25th anniversary special will find discounted club memberships and Titcomb Mountain season passes available, she said.

Titcomb’s opening target date is Dec. 22. For more information, call 778-9031 or go to: www.titcombmountain.com
