AUBURN – Candidates for city office are being extremely frugal this year, with only those seeking the mayor’s chair registering any campaign spending.
Mayoral candidate Eric Samson tops the short list, spending $2,614 on his campaign – most of it for signs and advertisements in the Twin City Times. Opponent Fred Sanborn spent $462, including $109 for T-shirts and the rest for signs.
Ed Desgrosseilliers filed a report claiming $720 in spending for the write-in campaign for incumbent Mayor John Jenkins. That was spent on signs, office supplies and an advertisement in the Sun Journal.
None of the other candidates claimed any campaign spending.
Preliminary campaign finance reports were due by close of business Wednesday and reflect spending through Oct. 25.
Clerk Mary Lou Magno said candidates have until Dec. 18 to file their final spending reports.
