Dear Sun Spots: I run an adult residential home in the Lewiston/Auburn area for John F. Murphy Homes.

Two of the young men who live at this home love karaoke. Unfortunately, it is not in the budget to purchase a karaoke machine at this time. One of our senior leaders tells me that Sun Spots and its readers have always been very helpful to this organization and the people we serve. So it is with that in mind that I am inquiring if any of your readers has a karaoke machine that they no longer use and would like to donate it to a great cause. I would love to hear from them. The result would undoubtedly provide a great deal of joy for at least two young men. I will gladly come and pick up this item. Thank you all for your continued support of the people we serve. I may be reached at 754-7740. – No Name, No Town.

Sun Spots also loves karaoke and really hopes readers will be able to assist you here. You might also check out your local classifieds, Uncle Henry’s or even eBay as other options.

Dear Sun Spots: I am interested to know if there are any pottery classes held for adults in the central Maine area. I live in Turner and have taken pottery classes through adult education at Edward Little High School in the past but they no longer offer the classes. The classes were great as students were given initial instruction on different handbuilding and throwing techniques, and then we were able to experiment on our own with the use of the pottery equipment, and our finished pieces were fired for us and ready for us to glaze at the next class.

I have put in requests for the Turner area as well as EL to offer a class to no avail. The closest I can find is in Gray at the Fiddlehead Center for the Arts. It sounds like a great class, but is quite a distance for me to travel. I wouldn’t mind paying a fee so I could just have the use of an electric wheel at a local high school. Thank you for any suggestions. – No Name, Turner.

You may recall that another reader asked a similar question in an October column. Sun Spots was able to direct that writer to the Portland Pottery & Metalsmithing Studio at 118 Washington Ave., Portland, ME 04101, 772-4334.

Dear Sun Spots: My name is Meaghan, and I’m writing to you today because I have something that I wish to return. In the summer of 1976/1977 I was vacationing at Hermit Island with my family. I was walking the beach and found a class ring. Not having the resources then as we do now, I tucked the ring in a box. It was forgotten. My husband and I celebrated our 20th anniversary and he gave me a new diamond ring. This started the process of getting appraisals and insuring my other jewelry. Seeing that ring in a box without its rightful owner got me going.

I’ve been in touch with the Auburn high school, Auburn library and now you. The Auburn library mentioned that you run a free column called Sun Spots. I’m hoping that you might run an article to try and find the owner of this ring.

The ring is a 1976 woman’s class ring from Auburn high school. The initials on the inside of the ring are (NIC.) The Auburn library found out that the maiden name of the woman was Nancy Irene Chasse. I hope that we could have a happy ending to this situation. My contact information is: 7904 Weedsport-Sennett Road, Weedsport, NY 13166 or I may be reached via phone at 315-255-6126.

Happy hunting! – Meaghan Cologgi, No Town.
