AUGUSTA – Central Maine Power Co. will disrupt service to an estimated 4,300 customers in several Franklin County towns early Saturday morning to complete upgrades to the power grid serving the area.

“The outage is needed so our crews can safely complete work on a new circuit and other improvements to serve added load in the area, including Nestle’s new Poland Spring water bottling plant in Kingfield,” CMP Spokesman John Carroll said in a prepared statement. “Our lineworkers and contractors will be working through the night to transfer lines onto new poles and complete connections. This is one of a number of projects we have taken on to improve system reliability and to support economic development in the region.”

The outage area will include a part of Farmington, plus all of about a dozen rural towns to the north along routes 27, 234, 146, 16, 142 and 145.

The outage is scheduled to begin at 1 a.m. on Saturday. Work should be complete – and power restored – by 5 a.m. In case of inclement weather, the work will be performed during the same hours Sunday morning.

The following areas will be affected: Avon, Freeman, Highland Plantation, Kingfield, Lexington Township, Madrid, New Portland, New Vineyard, Phillips, Salem and Strong.

Parts of Farmington, including the East Luce Road, New Vineyard Road, Cowen Hill Road, Stanley Road, Barker Road and Ramsdell Road, will also be without power.
