LEWISTON – Dorothy Jane Bennett, 73, of Wyman Hill Road in Rumford, died Sunday, Nov. 4, at Central Maine Medical Center, with her family and friends by her side.

She was born in Rumford, on Feb. 8, 1934, a daughter of Elroy and Martha (Clements) Rideout Sr. She attended Rumford schools and graduated from Stephens High School, Class of 1952.

She had worked in the area including for the Maine Job Service and for Davis Florist. She was a member of American Legion Post 100 Auxiliary in Dixfield; member Rumford Falls Aerie 1248, F.O.E. Auxiliary; served as a Meroby school volunteer; past president of the Mexico Mother’s Club; co-ordinator for the American Society for the Road to Recovery Program. She also enjoyed gardening, Beano, playing cribbage at the American Legion with her friends Brian and Diane Mitchell, and loved spending time with her family.

She was married in Rumford, on July 15, 1961, to the late H. Russell Bennett who died at Togus, on May 28, 1995.

Survivors include a son, Steven Bennett and his fiancé, Deirdra Gallant and her children, Caitlyn and Barry of Dixfield; a daughter, Wendy Sweatt and husband, Wesley, of Milan, N.H.; grandchildren, Nathan, Samantha, Erin, Kristi, McKenzie and Zachary; great-grandchildren, Padence, Myah, Sawyer, Shelby and Jason.

She was predeceased by a sister, Margaret; and brothers, Richard and Elroy “Roy” Rideout Jr.

Her family and friends will dearly miss her fun loving character and sense of humor.
