SOUTH PARIS – Joseph Robert Philippe Boutin, 85, of South Paris died Monday, Nov. 5, at the Maine Veterans’ Home.

He was born in Auburn on Feb. 19, 1922, the son of Jacques and Alexina Audette Boutin. He attended schools in Auburn and worked for Bath Iron Works as a welder. He served with the U.S. Navy during World War II from 1941 to 1945. He served in the Pacific on several different islands as a damage control engineer. He received 11 ribbons and nine Battle Stars.

After his discharge, he returned to Auburn, where he worked at an auto body shop. He also owned a grocery store in Lewiston. Phil owned property and had a business on Thompson Lake called Thompson Lake Shore Development and Beechwood Development, where he built and sold homes.

In his spare time, he liked to travel to Pompano, Fla. He enjoyed all outdoor sports especially ice fishing and skiing. He was a member of American Legion Post 153 in New Auburn.

He is survived by a daughter, Irene Boutin Frye of Turner; three sisters, Cecile Beland of Ocean Pines, Md., Jacqueline Bilodeau of Poland and Constance David of Norway.

He was predeceased by a brother, Alcide Boutin; and a sister, Mary L’Heureux.
