AUGUSTA (AP) – University of Maine System trustees have voted to seek $8 million in additional state funding for the fiscal year that begins next July 1.

The appropriation would be in addition to the $3.4 million increase to the original $185.7 million appropriation that the Legislature approved earlier this year.

Chancellor Richard Pattenaude said the latest funding request is intended to hold down tuition costs and protect academic quality.
