With an eye-catching title, a captivating plot, and (in my copy of the book) detailed illustrations, what isn’t appealing about H.G. Well’s War of the Worlds. The main character starts out with describing how strange capsules from Mars land on earth, and the horrible creatures that appear out of the them. In a swift blow, the Earth is sent into tumult as the creatures, now equipped with their tripod machines, slowly begin conquering England.
This is the sort of book where once you start, the pages fly by and you can’t wait for the end. I love reading the classics, which is one of the first reasons why I picked the unabridged version of the story. The language would be difficult for younger readers, because of the precise vocabulary and complex description.
War of the Worlds is a must read! I don’t think that any movie could do it justice, because it makes you think: What if this actually happened? Is this how the world would react? The book is filled with what humans are capable of, and our Earth was breached so easily by the Martians.
