Board: Minot selectmen

Met: Monday night

Fire Pond Design

Issue: Two weeks ago selectmen voted to withhold the issuance of building and occupancy permits for the new Verrill Homestead subdivision because they had concerns over whether the fire pond along Summit Drive had been built according to plan.

Scoop: The developer has reconfigured the pond so the embankment slope is very close to the three-to-one design, and engineers have determined that the fire pond will hold much more than the required 30,000 gallons when the pond is full. Selectmen also received an engineering opinion stating that the subdivision road met town specifications for acceptance.

Up Next: Selectman voted to allow building and occupancy permits for development of the subdivision’s house lots and voted to have townspeople act on accepting Summit Drive as a town road at the March town meeting.

Missing road name

Issue: Missing road name and traffic control signs can cause difficulties ranging from the inconvenient to the deadly.

Scoop: Road Manager Arlan Sanders reported that the town is again experiencing some vandalism of its street signs. Among the missing are road name signs for Buckman Bridge, Jackson Hill, Jeffrey, Lower and Verrill roads. Of more concern was the disappearance, sometime last Saturday of a STOP sign, which Sanders said he replaced Sunday morning. The cost to the town varies depending on damage to support posts and the time involved making repairs.
