This is in response to an article “Study: More veterans are uninsured,” that was printed Oct. 31 in the Sun Journal.
Researchers at Harvard Medical School said most uninsured veterans are in the middle-class and are ineligible for Veterans Administration care because of their incomes. This is true.
My husband served four years in the Navy and was promised health benefits. In 2006, we met with a representative from Togus at the veterans’ home in South Paris to apply for VA benefits, and were told that, as of Jan. 17, 2003, eligibility for veteran benefits was restricted by income. The combined annual income of a veteran and spouse cannot exceed $32,000 in order to qualify for VA health benefits.
No wonder there is an increase of 290,000 uninsured veterans since year 2000.
Yes, sir. Thank you for serving your country.
