Science Explorer Post recycling electronics
LIVERMORE FALLS – Science Explorer Post 897, organized to help members investigate science careers, is accepting donations of electronics and ink jet cartridges that are no longer being used or are in need of recycling.
Post members can process donated electronics and cartridges and receive money for each piece of equipment recycled to provide funds for activities such as camping trips, water quality monitoring and forestry projects.
The post’s main focus is exploring careers in environmental science, but other areas of science will be included, as determined by participant interest. The group is based in the Jay-Livermore Falls area, and the Livermore Falls Water District serves as charter organization.
Explorer programs are co-ed and are affiliated with the Boy Scouts of America through the Learning for Life Program. Participants must have completed the eighth grade and be age 14 or 15 but have not reached their 21st birthday.
Registration costs $7 a participant (adult or youth). The uniform, a T-shirt with insignia, costs $12. The group does fundraising to help defray the costs of the program, but there are fees for some activities.
Post 897 is participant led and run. Officers are elected and run meetings, and participants have an active role in the operations of the post and selecting its activities.
To recycle items, drop them off in the collection bin at the Livermore Falls Water District offices, 20 Depot St.
